Supporting the FAWE Computer Lab

The FAWE All-Girls Computer Lab in Freetown, Sierra Leone, provides 133 girls ages 8-14 with access to computer technology and digital skills training. The lab is equipped with 20 computers and currently relies on a generator to provide electricity. To combat the rising costs of monthly expenses at the lab, Ubuntu For Humanity stepped in to help cover teachers’ salaries and electricity and generator costs. By bridging the digital divide, we can empower these young girls to pursue future careers in technology and successfully navigate the modern world.
Replacing Computers in Kamakwie

The computer lab at the Kamakwie Wesleyan Junior and Senior Secondary School has been a beacon of empowerment, bridging the digital divide between students in Kamakwie and those in larger cities. Since its inception, over 500 students have benefited, gaining essential computer skills that shape their futures. When a tragic fire destroyed several of the computers beyond repair, Ubuntu For Humanity felt compelled to help Develop Africa with the purchase of computers and replacement of surge protectors and power strips, as well as shipping, installation, and technician travel costs. These efforts to support the restoration of this vital learning environment will help these students gain computer literacy skills that will be essential for them to succeed in the 21st century.
